Course Description

I enjoyed the practical parts of the training. We experienced what it was like to be in a wheelchair/chair hoist so know what it will feel like for the client.
The course content was very clear and easy to follow with good practical demonstrations...

This course covers how to efficiently and safely transport a client - with and without the use of assistive technology. Participants gain an understanding of current OH&S legislation related to manual handling and injury prevention.

The ILC is registered to provide training in the Unit of Competency: Transport clients - Code HLTCSD208B from Certificate II in Health Support Services - HLT21207.

This course can be conducted at the work-site or in our training room. It is designed primarily for training small groups however, one-on-one coaching is also available.

We can also customise training to suit the workplace and the needs of the participants.

All training is interactive and practical, creating an environment where people learn with, and from each other.

Topics covered include:

  • current manual handling issues
  • current legislation
  • identification of risk factors
  • risk control
  • communication, privacy, dignity and confidentiality
  • application of lifting aids
  • correct lifting technique

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:

  • define manual handling
  • identify current Occupational Health and Safety legislation related to manual handling and injury prevention
  • dentify and list the potential manual handling risk factors in workplace settings
  • demonstrate appropriate communication to a client during transfers
  • identify ways to maintain client privacy, dignity and confidentiality
  • demonstrate a correct semi-squat position for manual handling
  • use lifting aids in the workplace to minimise the risk of injury to the client or carer and to maximise the rehabilitation potential of the client

Assessment

Assessment is offered during training through use of equipment, feedback, questionnaires and observation.

Participants who feel that they are already experienced and competent may wish to apply for recognition of current competencies (RCC).

Cancellation & Refunds

When a cancellation is unavoidable:

  • request a refund up to 7 days prior to the course (less 10% admininstration fee)
  • request a postponement to another time withing 6 months

The ILC reserves the right to cancel a course when there are unforeseen circumstances. Notification of cancellation will be given by phone. If we cannot place the applicant in another course, we will refund the full amount.

The ILC is accessible for people with a disability. Additional learning support during training and assessment can be arranged with prior notice.

Sue has more than 22 years clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist. She has extensive experience in paediatrics, aged care, assistive technology, manual handling and Access consultancy. Sue has a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
